A forerunner on CSR issues, urban distribution expert Star Service has released its extra-financial statement for 2022 three years ahead of the European CSRD directive. Available online on the company’s website, the company transparently draws up a complete audit of its CSR policy, an opportunity to review in detail its actions and future ambitions.

To be competitive in terms of delivery, it is always better to be one step ahead. This is exactly Star Service’s proactive approach to CSR. As proof of this, the last-mile logistics specialist publishes his 2022 extra-financial performance declaration voluntarily. It is thus ahead of the European CSRD directive, which will be mandatory for any company with more than 250 employees in 2026. “This EFPB highlights our CSR strategy. It formalizes all our objectives and ambitions on social, environmental, societal and governance issues. At Star Service, we have always been attentive to CSR issues, says Renaud Amory, Managing Director of the Star Service Group. In 1997, we were among the first to test delivery in electric vehicles. In 2011, we acquired La Petite Reine for Cargocycles®. Today, this sustainability report demonstrates our commitment to transparency with our partners and reaffirms our CSR commitments.”

From commitments to results
Demonstrating a strong CSR strategy, Star Service won the Ecovadis Gold Medal in 2023 (for the second year in a row), rewarding its CSR commitments and actions. The last mile specialist thus ranks in the top 2% of the best companies evaluated, all sectors combined.
But the Group’s CSR strategy is even more ambitious. The company is already involved in the major challenges of its activity: the decarbonization of the supply chain, air quality and the reduction of polluting emissions as well as the attractiveness and loyalty of its employees.
More specifically, on the environmental front, more than 90% of thermal vehicles meet the Euro 6 standard. In parallel, Star Service deploys low-emission delivery solutions: electric vehicles, Cargocycles & biporters or deliveries on foot, the share of which has increased by more than 50% in one year. The use of these low-carbon delivery solutions has made it possible to avoid the global emission of 491 tons of CO2 in 2022. The expert in urban logistics has also committed to reducing fleet emissions by 21% by 2025, through the Objectif CO2 charter. To measure and monitor these objectives, the Group has also committed since this year to achieving its Carbon Footprint Scopes 1, 2 and 3 every year.
On the social aspect, Star Service chooses the stability and protection of its employees. 95% of the payroll is used on the basis of sustainable contracts (CDI). Forsedis, the Group’s internal training centre, was certified Qualiopi this year and provided more than 53,000 hours of training to its employees (90% of Star Service managers come from internal promotion).
Finally, on the governance side, Star Service has carried out a series of actions such as the dissemination of an ethical charter to all its employees, their awareness of business ethics, or the creation of CSR clauses in supplier contracts.

Long-term CSR ambitions
Other concrete actions over the long term will be gradually implemented in response to the company’s major CSR challenges. “On the social front, this year we are integrating two major issues into our CSR strategy: disability inclusion and occupational health and safety. The first will be the subject of a disability action plan to train and educate our employees on this subject while promoting the recruitment of employees with disabilities. specifies the Chief Executive Officer of the Star Service Group. Regarding health and safety at work, we aim to obtain ISO 45001 certification in 2024, in order to improve the safety of our employees, reduce risks in the workplace and create better and safer working conditions for our employees. From an environmental point of view, our Group is taking a new turn with strategic ambitions aimed at transforming our activities in the face of ecological issues.” stresses Renaud Amory.
Indeed, in early 2024, the historic player in urban distribution will launch its Climate Strategy that will define its actions and its decarbonization curve until 2050. The company also aims to obtain a second certification in 2024, ISO 14001, guaranteeing the implementation of environmental management within the Group. “ISO 14001 certification is a critical part of our policy. It will ensure that ecological issues are fully taken into consideration at all levels of the company, in decision-making and during the operational activities of the company. This is a key point for the deployment of our CSR strategy, the achievement of our objectives and the continuous improvement of our actions to reduce our environmental impacts.” concludes Renaud Amory.
