The specialist in high energy and environmental performance insulating glazing has just completed the 100% acquisition of the Vidresif glass transformer based in Porqueres, north of Girona (Catalonia). With this new external growth operation, RIOU Glass enters the Spanish market and makes its second largest introduction.

RIOU Glass signs the second major acquisition since the creation of the family business in 1979. After Italy and Belgium, the ETI of Norman origin has just signed on October 19 the acquisition of 100% of its Spanish counterpart Vidresif. Thanks to this new strategic acquisition - carried out as part of the RIOU GLASS VERRE 2025 development plan - the flat glass processing specialist is taking its first steps in Spain. With an annual turnover of 25 million euros, and a total workforce of 115 employees, Vidresif becomes the second largest industrial site of the twenty-three that the group has behind RIOU Glass VIP, the historical factory based in Boulleville (Normandy). The acquisition of Vidresif will allow RIOU Glass to penetrate the Spanish market, thus gaining market share in the territory, but also to strengthen its value proposition by expanding its offer of glass products to Spanish and French customers.

A consolidated industrial process
Created in 1994 by the founding couple Joan Sánchez Mauri and Carmen Acedo, Vidresif has established itself in less than thirty years as a leading player in the North and East of Spain thanks to industrial investments that have allowed it to expand its glass-making expertise. In 2003, Vidresif was the first company in the country to equip itself with a «Jumbo» assembly line to produce large-scale glazing for the facade market (6000 x 3210 mm). Over the years, the Catalan glassmaker has developed a fully consolidated industrial process on its 15,000 m2 factory located in Porqueres, 25 km north of Girona, where 175,000 m2 of insulating glazing is transformed per year. Since then, the Catalan glassmakerci, Vidresif manufactures and markets the most design products - thanks to its mastery of digital printing - to the most technical glasses and large dimensions for the sectors of architecture and construction: tempered glasses, laminated, decorative, solar controlled, acoustic, etc. In addition to the Porqueres plant, Vidresif has a logistics platform on the Balearic Islands to serve the local market. The company’s portfolio of industrial customers extends from Catalonia, Andorra, the Balearic Islands to the Levant.

“We are delighted to welcome Vidresif and its teams to RIOU Glass. This strategic rapprochement is the expression of our desire to continue the development of RIOU Glass in Europe. Vidresif’s know-how, consolidated on a unique and ultra-modern site, is a real asset. It allows us to strengthen our value proposition to both Spanish companies and our French customers,” says Christine Riou Feron, President of RIOU Glass.

“RIOU Glass is an independent group, producer and processor, whose reputation is well established. There are many synergies with good growth prospects that will, I am sure, ensure the sustainability of our know-how,” says Joan Sánchez Mauri, Managing Director of Vidresif.
